Redistribution from the Lens of A Libertarian

In this article, redistribution will be examined from the perspective of a libertarian. Does liberty and redistribution go hand-in-hand? Libertarians believe that most of the claims that the Government makes are unjustifiable and, hence, can not be fulfilled on the ground. Why is that so?

Libertarian Vision on Income Redistribution

It is seen many times that during elections, parties come with manifestoes that contain all the promises that the said party will bring once it comes to power. However, they always turn out to be false once elections conclude. These false claims libertarians believe are unjustifiable, and the Government asserts wide-reaching powers in order to control the day-to-day lives of people. Right from taking their belongings to conscripting for war, government intervention is widely rampant. If justifications are given for these powers, then it comes as an afterthought. Income redistribution is important and to make it justifiable, it is important to stay true to promises that the governments make before elections.

Libertarians believe that we need to hold the Government and ourselves to higher standards. Only then can man dream of a free society. With mutual respect for capabilities and liberties, libertarians believe that society can be a peaceful abode. Income redistribution will significantly help in maintaining a just and equal society.

Conclusion

Libertarian vision of redistribution is based on morality. They believe that right moral values would lead to equal opportunities and not lead to any kind of uneven redistribution of economy or resources.
